RETURN OF THE HALF-BELT
A neat row of half-belt back jackets, definitely due a revival, as archaic menswear details go.
The trio, from left to right, is a 1930s Californian goat skin sports jacket, U.S. Army M-1941 field jacket, and a late 40s Gordon & Ferguson ‘Field & Stream’ sports jacket.
These three encapsulate in a snapshot the evolution of the half-belt as a sports style in the 1930s, it’s adoption for the military in the 1940s, and then it returned to civilian styles immediately post-war. This underrated yet flattering menswear detail surely deserves another spell in the limelight. Go to it.
