A neat row of half-belt back jackets, definitely due a revival, as archaic menswear details go.
The trio, from left to right, are a 1930s Californian goat skin sports jacket, U.S. Army M-1941 field jacket, and a late 40s Gordon & Ferguson ‘Field & Stream’ sports jacket.
These three encapsulate in a snapshot the evolution of the half belt as a sports style in the 1930s, it’s adoption for the military in the 1940s, and then it’s return to civilian styles immediately post war. This underrated yet flattering menswear detail surely deserves another spell in the limelight. Go to it.
